4.0 out of five stars Good but do not throw away those photos just still, October 24, 2009
By Robert S. Wright (Township of Washington, NJ USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Pandigital SCN02 Photolink One Touch Scanner with Memory Card (Electronics) I bought this unit for a particular reason. I have thousands of old photos that most likely could not gain from a high res scan since they don’t look all that great as pictures. Many are of family and pets and I could like to keep them and display them using my digital frame. The idea that I could scan pictures in on a table top without a computer was appealing. When the unit arrived, I read the information. It tells you to use these clear plastic sleeves (one for 3×5 and another for 4×6) to scan your photos. Do not. These things are badly intended and will either not catch properly on the unit causing many rescans or it’ll create lines on the photo. It tells you in the packaging that they’re to protect your photo. Nonsense. I scanned many of pictures without them and there hasn’t been a hint of a problem. Once I ditched the sleeves and scanned directly in to the unit, I was quite happy. Just be aware that it crops some mm’s off your original. The last product is respectable. You get a 1.5 mega pixel jpeg for 3×5 and a two mega pixel jpeg for 4×6′s. This is good for showing on a digital frame but hardly high enough resolution to do any real editing to or print enlargements. I used up to four gig Utra II SD cards and they work good. There’s also a compact flash slot so you may be able to make use of many old cards if they’re sitting around. Bottom line, it works as advertised but the last product is hardly a comparison for a low cost flat bed scanner.

5.0 out of five stars Love this scanner!, August 6, 2009
By Marva Mason (Houston, TX) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Pandigital SCN02 Photolink One Touch Scanner with Memory Card (Electronics) This is great for doing 300dpi scans. It’s so fast and quicker much faster than putting photos in a desktop scanner. I have been impressed with the results and can sit and scan hundreds of photos (up to a 4×6 size) while watching tv. The quality is great. I could greatly recommend this PanDigital scanner to anybody who took tons of photographs and wants to have them on their computer or just to create digital pictures for backup. If there were ever an emergency, it’s far easier to run out of the house with a memory card rather than boxes and boxes of photos. So far, I scanned about 4000 photos and happy with the results. Could like to see PanDigital come out with a higher DPI unit. I could be 1st in line to buy.

4.0 out of five stars Good for what it’s, November 2, 2009
By K. Rule (Beaverton, OR USA) See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME) () This review is from: Pandigital SCN02 Photolink One Touch Scanner with Memory Card (Electronics) I bought this scanner to scan some number of photo albums and many boxes of prints that I have. Many are old, one of a kind family photos that go back to early in the last century.

This scanner screamed through my grandmother’s album (with 400+ photos). I was able to scan them all in about two hours. That is unbelievable. But, I did not run into some issues:

1) Some photos just will not feed straight and you end up with a funky curve in the photo.
2) Some photos get stuck and need help. These photos end up with many of leading or trailing bogus data.
3) Some old photos from the 40′s/50′s are tiny. These really need a higher resolution scanner to be useable.

There are a couple of things that could certainly improve this scanner. A battery so that it may be used without plugging it in and a way to more securely put in a SD card. That way I could through this in a backpack and just use it.

Even with the issues, it is a nice addition to flatbed scanner, but it is not a substitute.
